Gerard's Mill in Wippelgem

With a system of pulleys and counterballances the beam in the bottom of this picture can be lifted up easily.
Lifting that beam releases the brake which allows the brake wheel to turn if there is enough wind.
The brake in Gerard's Mill is wood on wood.
