The Meetjesland in the north of East-Flanders, Belgium

A picture from St.-Laureins

winnower

If the fan of the winnower is turned—by hand of course—at just the right speed
and if not too much grain is poured down from the top,
the chaff and other light impurities will be blown away to the right
while the grain will come out of the rectangular hole (under the big shovel).
Dust clouds?  Who mentioned dust clouds?
Could it have been the guy who stood on the right and held open the big bag to collect the chaff?
Collect the chaff?  What for?  To be converted into manure.

Picture taken on 22 April 2007 (Flanders' Heritage Day).
