Here follows an extract taken from the register of births of April 1868 of Knesselare, East-Flanders, Belgium.
This certified copy was sent to Mr. Robert J. Noe, Rock Island, Illinois in August 1989 by Mr. A. Schrans, the burgomaster of Knesselare.


	In het jaar achttien honderd acht en zestig, den vier en twintig- sten April ten twee ure namiddag, voor ons Louis Bruggheman, burge- meester, ambtenaar van den burgerlijken stand der Gemeente Ursel, rech- terlijk arrondissement Gent, Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, is verschenen : Francies Noé, oud negen en dertig jaren, werkman, geboren te Adegem en woo- nende te Ursel, wijk Vreckem, welken ons heeft vertoond een kind van het mannelijk geslacht, geboren in deze gemeente, heden ten zes ure 's morgens, van hem verklaarder en van zijne huisvrouw Ursula Mussche, oud drie en dertig jaren, geboren te Ursel, en waaraan hij heeft verklaard te geven den voornaam van: August. De voor- melde verklaring en vertooning gedaan in de tegenwoordigheid van Jan Baptiste Roelandts, oud zeven en dertig jaren, veldwachter, en Frederic Gillis, oud twee en veertig jaren, landbouwer, beide woo- nende te Ursel. Na voorlezing heeft de vader verklaard niet te kunnen teekenen door unkunde, de getuigen hebben met ons geteekend.
	In the year eight hunderd eight and sixty, the twenty-fourth of April at two hours in the afternoon, before us Louis Bruggheman, burgo- master, civil servant of the Registry of Birth, Deaths and Marriages of the Town of Ursel, court district Ghent, province East-Flanders, has come: Francies Noé, old nine and thirty years, laborer, born in Adegem and living in Ursel, area Vreckem, who has shown us a child of the male gender, born in this town, today at six hours in the morning, of him, the declarer and of his houswife Ursula Mussche, old three and thirty years, born in Ursel, and to whom he has declared to give the first name of : August. The above mentioned declaration and showing done in the presence of Jan Baptiste Roelandts, old seven and fourty years, village constable, and Frederic Gillis, old two and fourty year, farmer, both living in Ursel. After the reading the father has declared being unable to sign due to ignorance, the witnesses have signed with us.
